InkSoft, Albuquerque, N.M., recently announced that one of its customers, Sandlot Sports LLC, received two awards from the Michigan Small Business Development Center (SBDC).

Sandlot Sports is an apparel-decorating and retail business whose website is powered by InkSoft software. The Saginaw, Mich.-based company, which was founded by Ryan Dost and Adam McCauley, was named the 2017 Best Small Business for the Great Lakes Bay region. It also received the Main Street USA Award as part of the “Michigan Celebrates Small Business” awards program.

The company made use of two important resources that it attributes as major factors in recent growth and profitability. The first was contacting the SBDC. With the center’s help, the company upgraded equipment, increased sales and added six employees within 18 months.

“Our sales volume grew 8.6% from 2014 to 2015, and 10.6% from 2015 to 2016,” McCauley says. “In 2016, Sandlot Sports exceeded $2 million in sales.”

The second resource was investing in InkSoft’s online design program and webstore software.

“We’ve been using it as our online designer to allow customers to shop with Sandlot Sports around the clock,” McCauley says. “It’s allowing our customers and clients to shop, design and buy on their own time.”

Sandlot Sports was selected among nearly 5,500 small businesses statewide for the Small Business Award, and from 12 finalists for the Main Street USA recognition. Companies were judged on their success in developing programs that have positively impacted their operations, its returns and its positioning for future growth, as well as job creation and level of involvement with the Michigan SBDC. — J.L.
