FULL STORYFruit of the Loom, Bowling Green, Ky., recently donated 500,000 pieces of essential clothing to residents of Florida and the surrounding region affected by Hurricane Irma.
The company sent three semi-trailers full of essential clothing items, such as underwear, T-shirts and sweat pants, to Orlando, Fla., for distribution to residents in need throughout Florida and impacted southeastern states.
The products departed Fruit of the Loom distribution centers in Palmetto, S.C., and Bowling Green, Ky., to arrive in Orlando. The third truck, from Montgomery, Ala., will arrive in Orlando today for distribution.
Truck Carrier First Coast Alabama contributed to the relief effort, providing free freight services for the Fruit of the Loom deliveries, as well as the deliveries sent to Houston in the previous weeks, saving nearly $7,000.
Basic clothing donations still are needed as Florida and the surrounding region continue to recover from this disaster. Others can join the cause by visiting RedCross.org. — J.L.
