Madeira USA Announces Color Name Contest Winners

April 14, 2014

Madeira USA, Laconia, N.H., recently announced the winners of a color names contest for its Mini Snap Cones (MSCs).

Last year, the company decided to gather color name suggestions from its customers. Of the estimated 1,500 suggestions received, those that were chosen were entered into a drawing to win a three-drawer wooden storage chest.

With the launch of the color names and the completion of the project, Madeira USA recently announced the winners:

–    Kathy Bolejack, A Personal Stitch, Highlands Ranch, Colo., for “Blush Pink”
–    Marian Eure, Embroidery Creations, Windcrest, Texas, for “True Blue”
–    Mary Dozeman, Mother Hen’s Quilt Embroideries, Allegan, Mich., for “Spearmint”
–    Lisa Schultz, Pup’parel, Somerset, Ky., for “Raisin”

Each winner will receive a three-drawer wooden chest that holds up to 180 MSCs, spools or barrel spools, and a certificate acknowledging the choice of their color name.

In making the color names available online, Madeira USA stresses that its universal color numbers are as important and active as ever. In fact, customers are expected to continue ordering with color numbers, rather than names, according to the company.

“While we’ve supplied a large contingent of our customers with the ability to refer to colors by name, and even offer names to their customers in their own shops, we are very much a global company and colors will always be branded by number,” says Shirley Clark, Madeira USA president. “What we are trying to do here is to supply our smaller customers with the tools they feel they need, while maintaining the ease and universality of the color numbering system that is used throughout our customer segments and the world.”
