Madeira, Laconia, N.H., has introduced an embroidery thread that offers the rugged appearance of cotton and the durability of acrylic.
At 50% cotton/50% acrylic, Madeira’s new BurmilanaCo is a “cousin” to Burmilana, the company’s 50% wool/50% acrylic blend. BurmilanaCo is a 12-weight machine embroidery thread that offers a hand-embroidered look. Available in 72 colors, it is more economical than the wool blend, easy to run and provides a beautiful, subtle stitch out, according to the company.
With a natural, soft hand, BurmilanaCo is ideal for chenille embroidery, chain stitch, fringing, decorative seams and other special effects. Due to its thicker weight, the use of a #100/16 needle is recommended, as well as slightly tightening the tension on the embroidery machine.
Also, BurmilanaCo has been tested by the international Oeko-Tex organization and determined to be free of harmful substances. It received a Class 1 rating, which clears it for use on baby clothes.
